Our Mission
Solar is one of the largest investments a household or business will ever make, and one of the hardest to check once the installer has left. Equipment gets substituted, corners get cut where no one looks, and the buyer is left to trust a technical system they have no way to verify alone.
FireFlies Energy exists to close that gap. As an independent verification service, we vet installers before they're dispatched and check finished systems against the proposal the client approved, using documentation and photo-evidence checks. Our review approach is aligned to recognised engineering standards such as IEC and SANS, and works in step with each market's energy regulator, for example ZERA in Zimbabwe and NERSA in South Africa.
Our mission is simple: make trust, safety and consumer protection the default in solar, so that going solar is a measurable investment rather than a hopeful one.

Our Story
FireFlies grew out of a recurring problem seen across Southern Africa's fast-growing solar market: brilliant proposals, capable installers, and no independent way for a buyer to confirm that the system they paid for is the system they got.

Behind the platform is hands-on solar engineering experience across Southern Africa. That practical background shapes every check we run and keeps our review approach grounded in what actually goes wrong on a roof, not just what looks good on paper.

We are deliberately an independent verifier rather than an installer or supplier. FireFlies vets professionals and verifies systems through documentation and photo-evidence checks, aligned to recognised engineering standards such as IEC and SANS. We never quote, sell or price the work, so our only stake in a project is that it's done right.
Strengthening the ecosystem, alongside the regulator
FireFlies is an independent private-sector platform. We complement the work of national energy regulators such as ZERA. We do not replace or compete with them. Regulators set and enforce the rules of the market; our role is to add a layer of quality, trust and verification on top of them, helping raise standards and encourage safer installations.
By vetting installers and independently verifying finished systems, we help the whole ecosystem work better: consumers get protection, credible installers get recognised for doing good work, and the wider push toward reliable clean energy across the region gets stronger.
